Prekindergarten at Resurrection is a full-day program that is designed to create self-motivated, responsible learners within a developmentally appropriate curriculum. It is a program that enhances the spiritual, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child.
Children participate in daily “circle time”, as well as school wide opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. In the prekindergarten room, there are multiple basic learning stations including dramatic play, blocks, library, math, language arts, science, and art. Each day, the children work in small groups with the teacher at the lesson table. The teacher reads and works on phonemic awareness activities. Math lessons are also taught as a whole group. Science and Social Studies are whole group lessons with hands-on activities. Students have a quiet time each day to rest or nap.
Our Prekindergarten program encourages parental involvement and communication. To foster a partnership between parents and teacher, parents are encouraged to participate in ongoing activities within the established routines, special events, field trips, and parties.
The Prekindergarten day also offers other learning opportunities such as music, religion, and outdoor play.
Students have a daily religion lesson during which Catholic values and beliefs are taught. The program helps to teach the children the following Sunday’s Gospel reading in an age-appropriate language. Gospel teachings are also reinforced through activities and focus themes. Students open and close each school day with prayer and attend an all-school Mass every week.
The students visit the school library once a week, where they enjoy storytime with the school librarian.
Music classes are designed so that all children sing and participate. Music is taught in their classroom once a week. Students learn songs and simple dances.
