Children participate in daily “circle time”, as well as school wide opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. In the prekindergarten 3 room, there are multiple basic learning stations including dramatic play, blocks, library, math, language arts, science, listening center, and art. Each day, the children work in small groups with the teacher at the lesson table. The teacher reads and works on phonemic awareness activities. Math lessons are also taught in small groups. Science and Social Studies are whole group lessons with hands-on activities. Students have a quiet time each day to rest or nap.
Our Prekindergarten 3 program encourages parental involvement and communication. To foster a partnership between parents and teacher, parents are encouraged to participate in ongoing activities within the established routines, special events, field trips, and parties. A weekly folder is sent home once a week (date determined by teacher) to inform parents of the upcoming week’s activities and objectives.
The Prekindergarten 3 day also offers other learning opportunities such as music, religion, and outdoor play.
Students have a daily religion lesson during which Catholic values and beliefs are taught. The program helps to teach the children the following Sunday’s Gospel reading in an age-appropriate language. Gospel teachings are also reinforced through activities and focus themes. Students open and close each school day with prayer and attend an all-school Mass every week.
The students visit the school library once a week, where they enjoy story time with the school librarian.
Music classes are designed so that all children sing and participate. Music is taught in their classroom. Students learn songs and simple dances. Students perform on special occasions.
